THIS IS A MESS - Southern Supercross Series - Southern Dirt Series - Outlaw Series - we started the supercross series and planned our entire summer around the "revised" schedule and come to find out today, one day before the next race that it is cancelled............NO UPDATED INFORMATION POSTED ON JMX WEBSITE which is the one we rely on. WHY do we have three different series going on at the same time and incorporating the SAME tracks? It seems the only series that remains CONSISTENT is Iron City's own series....which we will most likely support next time they offer it.....can anyone give me direction on which series will basically commit to a schedule because myself and others have been very confused with this JMX deal and are looking for another outlet for our kids to race. Who is accountable ??? Should we deal directly with each individual track owner ??? It seems nobody is stepping up to the plate and keeping things going for these kids that have committed themselves to one series, ex Supercross. And no regard is offered to the families that support this series as far as scheduling. We have planned our entire summer around the schedule and at the last minute, screw those that have been going to every race and plan their life around the race schedule. This is not the only motorsports events I have been involved with, but it is the most unorganized. And the supercross series is on motorcross tracks??? I understand the economy is difficult for many, I am currently unemployed myself and have had to cut back on other extras so my kid can race.........maybe if we had one organized series that incorporates several close tracks, more people would show up........instead of three series that are scattered and left to each individual to figure out where to go and what series to support! Anyone that can provide information that is useful, please contact me by email at waterplace@bellsouth.net.

Nobody even knows why these races are getting rescheduled. My husband has called Iron City and JMX and no one has returned his call. This is just rediculous! Im glad to see someone else feels the same way. If i hear anything i will keep you posted and please visa versa!!!! Iron City is having a race sunday on the motocross track, i think we will do that just so my family can see him race.

Hi bonzgirl - I know of several other people that are put out by this also and I am hoping that no one wastes time and money going there this weekend, only to be turned away. I was able to reach someone at Iron City this morning and he told me they have canceled the race due to low turnout at the previous supercross races??? Said they only had about 120 riders show up last time and it is cutting in to their sunday race..........we will probably go sunday also - only because we have planned ahead to race this weekend. This is crazy! Thanks for your input

wow, im glad you god to talk to someone. well i think if they changed up the new track a little bit then more people would ride it. My son and all his friends hate all the woops. His friend actually broke his collar bone at the last race there on the whoops. I've heard nothing but complaints about the track. So maybe if they would take that into consideation, they may have more show up. We definately will not race this series next year. What age and what classes are your kid or kids in? Ryan races a honda 250 and races the 250 c/d and Unlimited Novice! He's leading points in the novice now and not sure where he is at in the 250 c/d, he was 11th but took 4th last weekend. so hopefully that moved him up a bit! well maybe we'll see yall on Sunday then!

yeah, the guy at IC said they have had alot of camplaints about the woops - they may be changing it around to make a double instead. Sorry to hear about the collar bone! OUCH... IC has their own series - 5 races total on the big track and we will probably do that next year. They only have 3 races left in the series and you have to complete 4 to qualify for points. This is our first full year going for points - my son did his first race late last summer and fell in love with the sport! He is in 85 beginner and is leading the points. We arranged our summer so he could make at lease 8 (required) to be in the points running, but of course, they don't care if our schedule is screwed up or how it affects my kid. I feel if they put requirements to be "qualified" for points, they should stick to the original plan!

Just to clear up a few things, JMX's only involvement in any of these series is hosting individual rounds and maybe helping at the other events if asked.
I post things on our newletter as courtesy to the other tracks and to riders. I didn't update it on Iron City's deal because I wanted to clarify a few things with Patrick before hand and he has not returned my calls.
I keep the points because I can, (when tracks send me the results)
I have nothing to do with any choices made by Iron City either on their original schedule or changes they have made other than offering an opinion if asked.
The series are set up the way they are so that riders in a particular area (Greenville/Spartanburg or Charlotte) do not have to travel as much as they might for other series like the Ultra series. Track that are in the middle of the two major bases host some rounds that pay points in both series (Catheys Creek and Iron City).
The Carolina Outlaw series is run at and exclusively by Iron City.
The Carolina Supercross Series was put together by Al Lane. After considering feedback about the schedule he first released he decided to shorten it and to include some races at Catheys Creek and to end the series in August instead of November.
JMX appreciated a chance to be involved.
The Southern Dirt Super Series is run by Dub at Strawberry Hill. The tracks involved meant with Dub to agree on dates and classes.
Again, JMX was grateful that Dub included us.
It is unfortunate that changes were made that might have complicated things for some participants. I sure that there are reasons that the changes were made.

YOUR website is the only website that many of the new racers are directed to. That is where the Southern Dirt Super Series and the Carolina Supercross Series information is found. If there is another website that has information for these series, please let me know. I am under the impression that the red trailer at the races is operated by JMX, which is who we pay our entry fees to and is managing the series. If I am misinformed, please direct me to someone that is in charge of these series if it is not JMX. Many participants that are new this year are relying on JMX website for direction.

I miss the old JMX... always could count on the communication, the schedule and professionalism.
Thanks, Joe for doing as much as you do to help keep the information out there.
I keep checking to see what races I could do but spend half my weekends in Nashville now so it is hard to get out enough anymore.

what is the OLD JMX? If this is a courtesy provided by JMX, does that mean they receive no financial gain from this? I'm needing some guidance here to understand what is going on. And yes, we could previously count on this website for information and updates - weekly newsletter on Wednesday. The people we have dealt with at the "JMX" events have been wonderful and professional. What happened to JMX??? (re: the old JMX above?)

Please reread my post.
I thought I explained pretty clearly who was in charge of the individual series.
I do not "Manage" the series.
I bring my trailer to Iron City until he gets something else setup so that riders do not have to go all the way up to the big track for registration and awards.
I do the same at Top Gun.
Some of the people that have worked for JMX also work those events but it is for the individual tracks.
For the record, any decisions on a schedule change at Iron City were made soley by Iron City.
PS: Ivan, I miss the old JMX as well (most of the time)

How would yall have survived racing before the internet? It seems that different track owners are all trying to work together and make as many riding opportunities as possible. Patrick got flack for running sat and sun on the same weekend. Track owners are experiencing the worst turn out in quite some time. When we started, it was perfectly normal to have 25+ on the 50 gate at cathey's creek or parker valley. Now you're lucky to have 6! We watched the 06 Carolina Cup video last night just for old times sake and had forgotten how great the turnouts used to be.
We ran the PV qualifier in 07. We were 41st gate pick out of 42n in the 50 class. 2 years later, Patrick had 8 entries in the 65 class for the qualifier. Give these track owners/promoters a break and realize they are doing the best they can with the turnouts they have.
And yeah, Iron City got a lot of rain thur and Fri but it should be fine by race day. This ain't the 1st rodeo for any of these guys and it will work out if the riders continue to support them and stick through the tough times

We also have been solely racing the Southern Supercross Series and are upset as well about these changes. We have made plans for every weekend that was not a race weekend and made plans to race the scheduled races. I still cannot find how many races you can miss in that series or we would miss all of Iron City’s. They have solely thought of themselves in this decision to cancel or postpone these races not considering the riders who have supported this series. If one takes the time to think about it they would not race a Sunday race at Iron City since they are the ones (not Joe) that took away OUR series races.

Pink Impala,
Do you ever actually race or just offer pessimistic forecasts about races?
The big difference betwen right now and the qualifier is that it rained all weekend WHILE the racing was going on. And it was a bit more than "a few weeks ago". It was mid March, two weeks after 8 inches of snow which thawed slowly and saturated the ground,
To compare rain on Friday night BEFORE a Sunday race to the circumstances of the qualifier weekend is a huge stretch and a disservice to Iron City.
As someone posted on Southeast, at the last AMA race at Iron City it poured until 2 AM Sunday morning and yet the track was good. But you weren't there were you?
Maybe you should hold off on any mention of cancelation until it is closer to race time.

ya joe we race sometimes(well, not me,!!),when times and cash is good. we enjoy jmx races and iron city races. i enjoy it more when the wholoe family can go somewhere and ride all day for less than one boy can race, maybe 6-8 laps with, though. no need to get on me! i didnt say the race would be canceled, just as i was reading everyone complaining about races being canceled here and there, and while i was reading that. it was raining like hell here.. just giving some people a heads up,the few that still go.like you said, you havent heard back from iron city.maybe some of the racers might not find out either til they are already there... maybe we'll seee ya at a jmx race soon.

"PS: Ivan, I miss the old JMX as well (most of the time)"
I've said this before and I'll save it again but Shelby SX was my field of dreams.
My father was in the military and parents divorced when I was 8 years old. Didn't really know my dad other than the card here and there and phone calls on the holidays.
Then he retired and moved to Augusta, Ga. I got me a bike and started racing at a time when the majority of races were at Shelby Fairgrounds.
My father would come up every other weekend and he HATED dirtbikes but I told him I was racing. After two years he and I had grown closer than ever and he loved coming up to watch me race.
Then he got Cancer and I took care of him and was with him during his last week.
If it wasn't for the racing to cause us to argue and at first then he and I wouldn't have had anything that would have brought us together like the racing at JMX did.
Sitting at home watching TV or going to a movie or dinner here and there just couldn't do the same thing.
Sometimes it was sunny. Sometimes it was wet.
I don't remember any of the mud or crud but I do remember my dad being there and the friends I have made who I still ride with.
That is what racing is about. Whether a race is canceled or not is ok. At least we have groups willing and able to put on the races and give us a place to ride and enjoy ourselves.
Thank you to those that put on the races when you can!!
And thank you JMX for giving me a my Field of Dreams!

Ivan, Thank you for putting things in perspective! What you said is so true - these events bring families/people together and lifetime relationships are born. Sometimes we get so caught up in what affects us individually at this minute that we forget what is really important. So, thank you again and best wishes to you!

If prices were lower, multi class discount... as it usesd to be instead of AMA race prices turnouts may be better. I know we can't justify paying that much for a SX track unless we really need the gate to get ready for bigger event. We too miss the old JMX days - trophys for first not plaques, PVMX was the best place on earth and Shelby was awesome. We looked forward to the fair race all year and did one in Morganton as well. Awe the good ol days.

Seems to me that Iron City may have done us all a favor. No way we could afford racing back-to-back Sat & Sun. Splitting it up makes it easier for us to afford and could result in the kids getting to attend an extra race or two that they wouldn't have otherwise.
The "old" JMX? My son's first race was Top Gun in July of '04 on an XR-100. It's the only thing he wanted for his birthday that year. I'll never forget Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying" blaring from the PA system that afternoon as we waited for practice to begin. Every time I hear that song, it takes me back to that day.
And there was nothing like pulling into Parker Valley at 6:00 on a Saturday morning in September, in the dark and when the fog was still too thick to see what the track looked like, pulling down the hill to the bottom to get a spot on the straightaway near the starting gate.

The "old" JMX will never be forgotten by our family. My son had his first race at 4 years old in a major mudder at Shelby, his 50 made it 10 feet out of the gate in the muck and that was it.
Even though he never made it to the first turn in that first race he was determined and practiced and starting finishing toward the front in the Pee Wee MTC class and finally got his first win and trophy instead of a plaque (you had to win to get the trophy back then) and was estatic. He went on to win the Fall Series that year (2003) and got a trophy that to this day is still taller than he is.
Over the following 6 years we would have the best times going to JMX events and racing with great people like the McKees, Littles, Hoffmans, Hogans, Greens, Smiths (Luke), Jacob (can't remember his last name but his grandparents always brought him), Noah Lindsey and his family, the Walls, Austin Johnson and his family, Dalton Hall and his family, the Mangums, the Longs, Vendettis, Schanewolfs, and me in the old timer's class mixing it up with Roy Clarkson, Randy Smith (even though he always stomped me), John Edwards, John Setzer, and others.
Just a few years ago, as several others pointed out, the 50 and 65 gates, as well as the plus gates (meaning old guys like me) were packed (all the gates were packed). The 50 practice was a real challenge back then because there were so many bikes on the track.
Over the years I got to know Joe Williams pretty well, and being in the industry understand the business of motocross racing. When times were good, he reinvested in the program. There was a banquet each year that sold out at Goforth Hall in Shelby. There would be food, awesome series awards, door prizes (like enclosed trailers) and a sense of unity with all of the racers and their families. When things started to get tougher, with entries dropping off as bike prices climbed during the four stroke revolution, along with fuel prices affecting his operating costs, and the economy steadily declining, he had to start to cut back. In the end, JMX would not survive as a sole promoter. For what it's worth, please try and bear with the perceived and actual faults of the dwindling number of promoters we have. Patrick at Iron City is losing a fortune so far, and runs events because he wants to. Joe helps out because he wants to contribute. I agree with Ivan. As difficult as it is (and getting more difficult every day)to turn a profit running a race track, and as expensive as it has become to race, we should try and appreciate the few tracks that are still running races, even if things are not as smooth and orderly as we would like. David is right, with the economy like it is fuel prices at ridiculus prices it is getting harder and harder to find the "disposable income" to race. I feel pretty sure if JMX was running strong and having a race every weekend like in the past alot of you would not be able to afford to do it week in and week out. I praise Patrick and Troy and Joe and every other promoter for trudging thru this day and age and continue to hold races. The weekend races are a place for friendships and competition and fun and it was a release from the everyday crap. Myself and Josh and all the kids that race Thank all the promoters for the job they do for the sport. If not for them we all would be ridin on small homemade tracks or in the woods or on powerlines or on, well you get the picture. sorry for rambling on but this is a heartfelt subject. P.S. Randy 25 where have you been??????? plus class misses you

This topic reminds me of a post I made a few years ago. I was unemployed then and again now, (third time in seven years). I'll copy and paste it. It pretty well expresses how I feel about the subject. ----------------------------------------------------- JUST WANNA BE AT THE TRACK I just want to be at the track. I want to get up at 5:00a.m. On Saturday morning! I want my low fuel light to come on before I get off the driveway! I want to forget my sunglasses! I just want to get to the track! I want my long drive to be miserable and question what else I forgot! I want to pull in to a long line at the gate… since I did schedule a bathroom stop upon arrival! I want to park way in the back since all the good spots are roped off! I just want to be at the track. I want to get back from sign up and find a flat tire on my sons’ bike! (Though I really don’t want to pinch the new tube putting it in) I want to find out now that I forgot my gear and will be racing in jeans and a button up long sleeve! (Myself March 06) I just want to be at the track. Now I can sit back and smell pre-mix while I sip on coffee! I want some little pit warrior to come through my pit and stir up the dust! I’d like to see him roost a rock on my truck while I’m wiping dust from my eye! Boy he had a smile on his face! Now I’d like to get an upset stomach at a really bad time! Lines at the Port A Johns and the one I get is filthy and the door doesn’t have a latch! I just want to be at the track!! See we haven’t raced since July and I’m really missing the racing, the people and circumstances that go along with it. Money got a bit tight and we took a break. But things have picked up so we’ll be back shortly! Did I leave my bike stand at the track? Well at least I was at the track!!!

I just want to say thank you to both Joe and Patrick. If it were not for the two of you, there would be no races in the area. I know it is hard to please everybody. But what we all need to realize right now is how the economy has effected our sport. We cannot go back to the way things used to be when circumstances don't allow us to do so at this time. I am an old school rider that started my career in the early 90's, and to be a successful rider you cannot pick and choose how tracks are built. I understand people are upset about the whoops at Iron City's new supercross track. Instead of being upset about the whoops, learning how to conquer the obstacle will make you a better rider in the end. Now as a parent of a pee-wee rider, we don't pick and choose the layout of the track that my son rides on. We talk about the different riding teqniques that should be used for that particular track. Let's just race and enjoy spending time with our families!

I have 2 diffent questions: 1) will the missed races be made up? 2) when will the points be updated and can anyone tell me how many races we have to run to be considered for points? They did not have the points posted at Top Gun this past weekend.
